Drum Kit Renovation
The Renovated Slingerland snare and matching Ludwig bass drum.
Now that E's playing drums we decided to give the makeshift drum kit the full Dusk Brothers renovation treatment.
It sounds amazing but it just didn't look very 'us'.
The Slingerland snare had a very un-Slingerland standard black wrap and the very old Ludwig had been attacked by someone in the past who'd glued and riveted their work to within an inch of its life!
Matching the finish on the different timbers was a challenge but hopefully now it looks as good as it sounds!!

Really enjoyed seeing the transformation of this drum kit. The amount of care that went into restoring the Slingerland snare and Ludwig bass drum is impressive, especially matching the finishes across the different timbers. It’s always great to see classic pieces restored instead of simply replaced. The finished set has a real vintage character, reminding me of the timeless style associated with john travolta in white suit—classic, distinctive, and still memorable decades later.
This is a really interesting look at drum kit renovation. Restoring an older kit instead of simply replacing it can give the instrument a new life while preserving some of its original character. I enjoyed reading about the process and attention to detail involved in bringing the drums back into shape. It’s always fascinating to see how classic pieces can remain memorable over time, much like the iconic saturday night fever white suit.
